Dr. Imran Shah, Managing Partner

Imran is a co-founder of IBB Consulting Group, the leading boutique consulting firm serving leading broadband-related product and service providers in Cable, Mobile and Media industries. Dr. Shah is responsible for IBB's strategy and vision, major client relationships and leading key engagements.

An acclaimed specialist and thought leader in convergence strategies and technology, Imran has been involved in many of the most significant projects in the broadband industry. Prior to IBB, Imran held senior consulting and industry positions in leading companies such as Philips Electronics and PA Consulting Group, a management and technology consultancy.

As a sought-after consultant and industry advisor, Imran has worked with the most senior management teams in a variety of leading broadband and media companies, including AT&T, Comcast, Cox, Microsoft, Rogers, Sony, Telenor, Time Warner Cable and UPC.

Imran holds a BS, MS and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering all from Columbia University, along with 15 patents. He has been published numerous times. Imran was recipient of the 2009 Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Award from the Asian American Business Development Center, and was awarded the 2007 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Award in IT Consulting. He is on the Columbia Engineering School's Entrepreneurship Advisory Board and a founding Board member of OPEN's (Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs) New York Chapter. Under his leadership, IBB Consulting Group was honored in 2007 by being named #1 in Consulting Magazine's Seven Small Jewels of Consulting, and was honored by Inc. 5000 in 2008 as one of the fastest growing private companies in the US.

Afzaal Akhtar, Senior Partner

Afzaal's focus is on developing major client engagements and overseeing company operations. An accomplished technology strategist and program manager in the consumer and enterprise broadband arenas, Afzaal is an expert at shaping business strategies into pragmatic program plans. Substantial hands-on experience in systems and network architecture, operations and support, and software development enables him to design implementation programs that maximize business benefits throughout each phase of the product lifecycle: product and architecture definition, development, deployment, service delivery, BSS, OSS and customer service operations.

Afzaal's long experience and in-depth industry, technical and strategic savvy have made him a highly effective leader on a number of critical large-scale programs. Previously, Afzaal has held senior consulting and industry positions with leading companies including McKinsey & Co., Fidelity Investments and PA Consulting Group. Some of his clients include Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Liberty Global/UPC, Cablevision, Bright House Networks, Rogers Communications, Microsoft, Motorola, Panasonic and Sony.

Afzaal holds a BS and an ME in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Stephen Griffin, Partner

Stephen is responsible for developing and delivering major management and IT consulting engagements, to which he brings a talent for analyzing complex business problems and identifying appropriate strategies and achievable solutions. He combines proven leadership skill with a specialist's knowledge of broadband operations, technologies and products spanning high-speed data, video on demand, VoIP and interactive TV.

Stephen is exceptional in his ability to manage complex technical projects involving multiple vendors and internal teams handling various aspects of the project. For tasks as varied as managing systems integration projects, guiding the transition of operations to support mergers, and developing business strategies for companies venturing into new markets, Stephen's clients have depended on him for long-range vision, overall project management, and detailed technical attention. His clients have included leading broadband companies such as Comcast, UPC, AT&T Broadband, Adelphia and Cable & Wireless; software vendors including Microsoft; and content aggregators such as Movielink. Having over 10 years' consulting experience, Stephen has worked previously in companies such as Xavor, Zefer and PA Consulting Group.

Stephen holds a BSc in Mathematics and Computing as well as an MPhil in Knowledge Acquisition from Surrey University, UK.

Jonathan Weitz, Partner

Jonathan Weitz helps clients pioneer new products and services, develop innovative business models, design successful organization structures and optimize business operations.

Over the course of his career, Jonathan has advised companies such as Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Showtime, Sony Pictures Television, The Golf Channel, IAC/InteractiveCorp, Goldman Sachs and Intel.

At IBB, Jonathan leads initiatives in Revenue Growth Opportunity Analysis, New Product Strategy and Launch Management, Communications Products and Social Networking Services Development, Marketing Planning, Financial Modeling, Partnership Planning, Product Portfolio and Roadmap Management, Ad Sales Effectiveness, Customer Acquisition and Retention, Database Marketing, M&A Due Diligence, Business Operations Process Optimization, Performance Measurement and Change Management. Recent engagements include broadband video portal strategy for a Cable and Wireless provider, product strategy and advertising planning for a new HD network and merger integration planning and execution for a cable network.

Jonathan has published white-papers and articles on topics such as Broadband Video and has conducted research including global trends in interactive advertising and mobile content. Jonathan's insights can be found in leading publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times, as well as at conferences such as Digital Hollywood.

Prior to joining IBB Consulting, Jonathan was a manager in BearingPoint's strategy practice. He holds Bachelor Degrees in Organizational Psychology and Communications from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Business Administration from New York University in Finance and Operations.

Jefferson Wang, Partner

Jeff leads the Wireless and Mobile efforts at IBB.  An industry expert, Jeff has helped wireless clients innovate and execute through the entire new product development lifecycle from idea generation to launch.  Jeff's focus is on Devices, Products, and Services that help carriers, device manufacturers, and content providers drive revenue.

Jeff has hands on experience as a successful Product Manager who has developed global hits in smartphones and connected devices that integrate products such as LBS / Navigation, Messaging (SMS/MMS/Voice-to-Text/IM), Email, Browsers, Video-on-Demand, Media Vault, Music-on-Demand, and 3 Screen Media services.  Jeff has worked directly with all major air interfaces: GSM, CDMA, WiFi, WiMAX, and LTE.  Throughout his career, Jeff has repeatedly demonstrated the capability to unify cross-functional teams and external vendors to achieve early launch dates.

Prior to joining IBB Consulting, Jeff was an executive at Accenture, where he held numerous leadership positions:

Don Johnson, Partner

Don's focus is on extending and growing IBB's business in areas of Technology, Business and Operations Transformation and leading its CIO Services Group for media and communications clients.
Don has structured and delivered large-scale business and system transformation projects helping Communication providers meet and exceed market and customer demands.  His experience is focused in the following areas: Billing, CRM, EDW, Network Inventory, Service Assurance, Order Management and Testing. Additionally Don has helped IT organizations enhance and build processes supporting Portfolio Management, Vendor Management, Organizational Design, Disaster Recovery, Release Management and Program Management.  Don has worked and advised companies such as AT&T, ComHem, Cox, Disney, Embarq, FairPoint, Frontier, Tele2, Time Warner Cable, US Cellular, and Verizon.
 
Prior to joining IBB, Don worked at Capgemini where he was a Vice President in the Telecommunications, Media and Entertainment sector focusing on consulting and system transformation.   Don has also held senior IT positions with Bellsouth and The Nasdaq Stock Market focused on enterprise software development and system infrastructure. This combined experience uniquely positions Don to be an expert at selling and delivering creative and cost effective solutions across the Communications sector.
 
Don holds an MBA from Emory Goizueta Business School and a BS in Information Systems Management from Columbia Union College.

Dan Dodson, Fellow

Dan brings to his consulting engagements a unique blend of marketing, strategy and business modeling experience matched with technological proficiency. His broad technology expertise includes products and services such as VOD, digital video, IPTV, VoIP and Videocom, as well as broadband industry structure and home networking. Having more than 8 years' telecommunications consulting experience, and a total of 24 years in the industry, Dan has provided invaluable guidance to clients such as Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Hughes, Adelphia and GE, as well as various international telecommunications companies. His background includes consulting experience with PA Consulting Group and senior marketing roles at Nortel and several start-ups, in addition to prior experience in software development at Nortel.

Dan holds an MBA from Harvard and a BS in Computer Science from North Carolina State. He has also published several articles on the evolution of broadband.

Philip Knightbridge, Fellow

Philip is an accomplished management and technical consultant with extensive experience defining a wide range of technical and strategic solutions that meet client business objectives. He applies over 20 years of systems and software research and design experience and in-depth understanding of broadband products and solutions to analyze technology and architecture options, define solutions and ensure their effective integration into client systems. As a strategic architect, he has designed business systems and developed operational models, analyzed key business and operational drivers, and developed the technical strategies and solution architectures for products including high-speed data, interactive TV, and support systems such as OSS/BSS and customer care. During his consulting career, Philip has worked for a variety of firms including Xavor, PA Consulting Group and Logica, adding demonstrated value to a number of broadband companies including Comcast, AT&T Broadband, Cox, NTL and UPC, software vendors such as Microsoft, and industry bodies such as CableLabs.

Philip holds an MSc in Cognition, Computing and Psychology from the University of Warwick, UK and a BSc in Electronic Engineering from the University of Southampton, UK.

Mark Malone, Fellow

Mark has successfully taken the helm of large, results-oriented projects involving strategy formulation, process redesign, technology implementation and organizational change. Working in a range of verticals including broadband, telecommunications, financial services and transportation over the course of 18 years as a consultant, his engagements have run the gamut from business and technology assessments to large change management initiatives involving the overhaul of customer service and field operations. Communications clients ranging from Adelphia, AGT (now Telus), Comcast and Time Warner Cable have benefited from Mark's ability to conceptualize and execute insightful action plans. Prior to joining IBB, Mark worked in the wireless enterprise group at Qualcomm. He began his consulting career with Canada Consulting Cresap (now Boston Consulting Group), where he worked on strategic analyses in several verticals. He also worked previously as a development engineer in the energy sector.

Mark holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and a BSc in Engineering from McGill University.
